Error

BA100 Unhandled exception in the NTBackup Engine

Description

This error message indicates a general backup error.

The known causes of this issue are documented here:

  1. Backup Exec (or other backup software that installs its own tape drivers) has uninstalled the Windows Tape Drivers, and prevented all other backup programs from functioning properly.

If these causes do not apply to your installation, we recommend that you contact BackupAssist support for further assistance.

Resolution

For known causes:

If this error was caused by installing Backup Exec (or other similar backup software), please uninstall Backup Exec. You will then need to reinstall the original Windows tape drivers - that most likely came with your tape drive. (Please note: we have also found that a reboot after uninstalling Backup Exec may be required to restore the ability to use the Windows tape drivers.)

(Note: From Version 4.1, BackupAssist will detect this error specifically and show a BA391 error in the backup report.)

For unknown causes:

Please use the 'Contact support' link at the bottom left of the BackupAssist console to get help on this error.

You may also be able to find more information on this error by looking at the NTBackup log file directly (a link should be provided in the report if NTBackup was able to run).
